Basic training for Sunday School Teachers

		This is the greatest need in children's ministry: the lack of trained workers! I discovered very soon that if I wanted to have workers, I had to train them myself. Most churches in Cusco do not offer any kind of training for the teachers of their children. I started in 1995 with the first courses for teachers. After many attempts and experiments, I arrived finally at a form of training which really equips teachers for their practice. Between 1995 and 2000, almost 300 people assisted to these training courses.

The training course in its present form consists of 16 to 20 theory hours and a variety of practical exercises realized by the participants, related to their responsibility as teachers (Bible Studies, preparation of lessons and visual materials, supervised teaching of actual lessons).

Discipleship with children

For children who really want to follow Jesus and serve Him, the "normal" Sunday School programs do not offer sufficient challenge and incentive. That's why we want to form groups of children and teenagers who are believers, in order to train them for a life commited to the Lord, and to realize together with them a "Faith Project" where they can practice the gifts God gave them. This kind of ministry is still in its beginnings: After having worked with three groups in a rather informal way, the first formal Discipleship Group started in February 2001.

Advanced and Leadership training for children's ministry

All of the leaders of the Discipleship Group had already completed their basic training and are now participating in an advanced and fairly intensive leadership training. At long-term, we want to train specialized leaders for the ministry with children. These leaders will then realize Teacher's Training Courses and organize Discipleship Groups in their respective churches and denominations. The need for training is huge; therefore we need to "multiply" this ministry through many new leaders.
