Jesus said: You are the light of the world.

Do you belong to Jesus Christ? Is Jesus the Lord of your life? Are you happy knowing Jesus? - If your answer is yes, this page is for you.

Think for a moment about the way you got to know Jesus. Who told you about him? Who helped you to know him better? And who had told that person about Jesus?
The first Christians gathered in Jerusalem. I suppose this is very far from the place where you live. (Except if you happen to live in Israel.) How do you think the news about Jesus came from Jerusalem to the place where you live?
The following picture can help you to understand how it was:

The first Christians talked to all their friends about Jesus. When they travelled, they told the people they met about Jesus. Jesus had changed their lives completely, so they wanted to tell the whole world about him! So there were more and more Christians in the world. - After a long time, some Christians came also to the place where you live. One day, a Christian talked to the person who helped you to know the Lord. And later, that person told you about Jesus!

The Lord Jesus commanded his disciples:
" Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I will be with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28:19-20)
This is the Great Commission which Jesus gave us.

The first Christians did this. Some of them travelled very far to tell people in other provinces and countries about Jesus. (Maybe you have heard of the journeys of the apostle Paul. The Bible tells about him in the book of Acts.)
And what would have happened if the disciples had not been obedient? - You and I would not know anything about Jesus! Fortunately they did what Jesus said.
But now it is our turn to talk about Jesus. If you belong to Jesus, the Great Commission is for you.

It was reported that back in the nineteenth century, an English missionary arrived at a remote island in the Pacific Ocean. He started talking to the natives of the island about Jesus. The were very interested and listened with attention. After some time, the chief of the tribe asked the missionary: "Tell me, for how much time have there been Christians in the country where you come from?" - The missionary answered: "In England we know about Jesus Christ since more than thousand years ago." - The chief asked: "So why did you wait so long before coming here to tell us?"

There are still many nations and peoples in the world who do not know about the Lord Jesus Christ. But Jesus commanded us to go to ALL nations! They need somebody to go and tell them.

And how can I contribute to the Great Commission?

Here are some ideas:

- Start where you are. There are many people around you who do not know the Lord Jesus personally: schoolmates, friends, neighbors; maybe some of your own relatives. You can tell them what Jesus did in your life.

- Support a missionary who works in a place where there are not many christians. You can ask your pastor or the person responsible for missions in your church to give you the address of a missionary, or of a missionary organization, who works in a place of great need. (If your pastor does not have such information, ask him to find it out for you.) These are some ways how you can support a missionary:

• Write him a letter to encourage him and to ask for information about his ministry.
• Pray for his needs and the needs of the people he is serving.
• You can also offer money to help his work. (Most missionaries do not receive a salary, so they depend on voluntary gifts from other christians.)
• You can encourage other people to support a missionary themselves too.

- Pray for the nations and peoples where there are very few Christians. Pray especially for the places where it is very difficult for missionaries to get there. In prayer we can travel around the whole world, even to the most difficult and dangerous places!

- Maybe God wants to use yourself as a missionary in a foreign country. Ask God about it, and He will show you the way, step by step. And in case you are not called to go yourself, you are certainly called to help other missionaries who are going. The Great Commission is for all Christians.

Do you still remember the boy with the bread and fish? His small gift was important to the Lord Jesus. - On this page you have seen some ways how you can help the Lord Jesus.
